    Laura Whigham

I am the Woodville Middle School Science Department Chair, and I teach 7th Grade Science. I will start teaching an art class to 7th and 8th Graders this year! I also teach Driver Education to students from Tyler County high schools.

EDUCATION: I graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in my hometown, Port Arthur, Texas. I graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. My specialization is in geology.

EXPERIENCE: I have been molding minds for 34 years! I have served students in the Diocese of Beaumont, Port Arthur ISD, and Port Neches-Groves ISD. I began teaching 3rd Grade at Woodville Intermediate School in 2002 before moving to Woodville Middle School in 2007 to teach 7th Grade Scientists.

CLASS SUMMARY: 7th Grade Science is mostly comprised of life science lessons. We will also learn about some aspects of physical and Earth sciences. This year we will again use interactive workbooks. These consumable texts will keep the learners engaged because it helps them to relate to the content on a personal level. Hands-On and Virtual Labs will help in building inquiry skills and using the scientific method.

FUN FACTS: I am a piccolo player. I was in the band from 4th Grade all the way through college. During college, I was a semi-pro football cheerleader for the Beaumont Cobras! I took German in high school, and I have been known to interject a little German into science class! I currently ring hand bells at The United Methodist Temple in Port Arthur.

HOBBIES: I love sports, and I love to read. However, I never have time to read until the summer because I'm always at games during the school year! My favorite places to vacation are the beach and The Texas Hill Country. I enjoy spending time with my 3 precious granddaughters: Kaylee, Tarren, and Emma.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Edwin Powell Hubble said, "Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science."

Let's have an incredible adventure this year!!!
