Hello My Name Is...

Sally Carlton

I am a Career and Technology Teacher.  I teach 8th Grade Career Portals and 7th and 8th grade Home Economics. 

Education: I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Studies with a teaching certification in Home Economics.  I also currently hold a teaching certification in Art.

Experience: I started teaching in Hull-Daisetta (1 year), moved to Odessa for 4 years, Onlalaska for 3 years,  and before accepting a job in Woodville, I taught in Livingston for 10 years.  I have taught many classes including:  Career Portals, Exploring Careers, Art, Skills for Living, Child Development, Individual and Family Living, Personal and Family Development, Money Matters, CATED Home Economics, Girl's Athletics, Girl's PE, and Theater Arts.  Some alternate duties I have been involved in are:  FCCLA Advisor (competing at the State level many times), Assistant Junior High Girl's coach (all sports), UIL One Act Play Director (Junior High), UIL Assistant Director One Act Play(High School), Girl's softball coach, and Campus and District Improvement Committee member(many years).

Before teaching I have had many different jobs including:  Day Care Director, Pre-School Curriculum Coordinator, School- Age Director of Activities, Rope Course Instructor, Camp Counselor, Waitress, and I had my own business selling hand-made jewelry.  

Class Summary:    CAREER PORTALS:  The career development process is unique to every person and evolves throughout one's life. The Career Portal class is designed to "jump start" that process through the investigation of the Career Clusters, practicing work ethic, and by exploring various educational and career pathways.  This class also includes sections on budgeting, and study skills essential for educational and career success.   HOME ECONOMICS:  This class breaks down the four main components of Family and Consumer Science Education:  Personal and Child Development, Food and Nutrition, Money Management, and Design (including sewing, fashion, and interior design).
